Saturday, April 25- The Core of Tribal Fusion Part One and Two
These 2 workshops will include Deb’s signature Core- Integration Yoga for Bellydance material, and then apply it to phenomenal tribal technique and new stylized fusion choreography inspired by the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area scene, which Deb has lived and danced in for 12 years. A necessary foundation for any dancer. Guaranteed to rock your core, refine your technique, and take your dancing to the next level.
Part One: Engaging the Core: Ooey-Gooey, Slow and Slinky (10:00am to noon)
Dive deep into that jar of molasses! In this workshop, we will radically deepen our slow, ooey-gooey moves to achieve that slinky, sultry, intoxicating look and feel of Tribal Fusion Bellydance. Drawing from yoga, pilates, feldenkrais, and Deb’s personal ‘stash”, this workshop will focus on core integration, spinal articulation, and building the foundational strength, flexibility, and awareness in the hips, spine, shoulders, and side body to directly support ridiculously slow, controlled, snake-like dancing; create ‘floating upper body’ dance posture for stage; and inspire articulated, fluid movements and shapes. All this will be applied to belly dance technique, and juicy fusion combos. She has often been coined the ‘Queen of slink”. Come learn Deb’s unique tribal stylization.
Rocking the Core: Isolations, Layering, Shimmies, &Up-tempo Dancing (1:00-3:00pm)
By initiating movement from your core, you can free up your hips, gluts, legs, and upper body to create jaw dropping, juicy, layering that will open up whole new worlds to your belly dancing. In this 2 hr. workshop, we will do just that! Focus will be on isolations, pop/lockin, layering, and up-tempo dancing, inspired by the heart of the San Francisco Tribal scene. New tribal fusion combos will be offered to integrate the material.
*Attendance at both workshops strongly recommended. Material in the second workshop will build on that in the first one, with the main core-integration yoga for bellydancer warm up happening in the first workshop.
Sunday, April 26- Dance Therapeutics: Saving Your Bellydance Body
10:00am-noon
A necessary foundation for any level dancer! Of any style of bellydance.
Drawing from Yoga therapy, Traditional Thai-Yoga Massage, Feldenkrais, Somatic education, partner yoga, and Deb’s personal “stash” of dance therapeutics, this workshop offers effective, therapeutic techniques and practices to radically shift bellydance posture, generously improve flexibility and mobility, and prevent dance injury and pain. This workshop will deeply and safely help you increase spinal flexibility, release the low back, hips, gluts, and sacrum, and dramatically increase flexibility in ribs, shoulder, spine, and sidebody to improve ability for bellydance isolations and layering; as well as give you lasting tools for your own personal practice and dancer self-care. We will also go over healthy backbending to save your low back, as well as guaranteed therapeutic practices for injuries, muscle tightness, and ‘cool down.” All of this will be applied to tribal fusion bellydance posture, technique, and stylization. Come prepared with any specific questions, injuries, or health concerns with which you'd like assistance.
