All Classes this session will take place at: Pricing: To Register: About punch cards:
Beginner Tribal Improvisation teaches the basic movements and combinations of improvisational Tribal Style Bellydance format as well as formations, cues, and transitions for improvising in pairs and trios. No experience Necessary. Intermediate Tribal Improvisation will focus on intermediate combinations and more variations for improvisation. Basic technique will be reviewed and improved upon while students add to their movement vocabulary. This level will also introduce the use of finger cymbals. Prerequisite: completion of at least two sessions of Beginner Tribal Improv or instructor approval. Advanced Tribal Improvisation will cover advanced combinations as well as balancing props, skirt work, and floorwork. Although this class is made up of mostly student troupe members, performances are not required of all class members. Homework may occasionally be assigned. Prerequisite: completion of at least four sessions of Intermediate Tribal Improv and instructor approval. Beginner Tribal Fusion works first on basic movements universal to all styles of bellydance and then teaches how to create that beautiful other-worldly tribal fusion quality through combinations and a choreographed dance. No experience Necessary. Intermediate Tribal Fusion teaches more complex Tribal Fusion techniques and applies them to fun and funky or slow and slinky tribal fusion choreography. Students who complete these classes are eligible for performance opportunities in the local bellydance community. Prerequisite: completion of at least two sessions of Beginner Tribal Fusion or Improv, or instructor approval. Advanced Tribal Fusion will focus on the more advanced movements of tribal such as layering, spinning, leveling, and prop use. These concepts will be developed into a choreography each session and students will be eligible for performance opportunities in the bellydance community. Prerequisite: four sessions of Intermediate Tribal Fusion and instructor approval. Technique and Drills will focus on getting your movement to be the very best it can be through several exercises and one-on-one feedback. This class is perfect for the student who wants to tighten up her technique and really get her body working. Each week we will focus on specific skills and put them into a short combination by the end of the class. This class is not sequential, so it is the perfect drop-in opportunity for the student who wants a little extra practice or if you miss your weekly class! This is an all-levels class open to both Tribal Improv and Fusion students.
Class Attire: Yoga pants or leggings and a fitted top or leotard. Please no big t-shirts, sweatshirts, skirts, sweatpants, or baggy "harem pants." Students who wish to wear flared bellydance pants (in the style of Melodia pants) need to be able to tie or tuck them up when asked. Bare feet, socks, or flat soft-soled dance shoes sould be worn instead of gym or hard-soled shoes or heeled dance shoes. Noiseless hip scarves are highly recommended, but not required. Equipment: Beginner level classes will be given notes for the class. All other leves need to bring a notebook and pen/pencil and will need to toke their own notes in or after class. It is recommended that you bring a bottle of water to class. Intermediate and Advanced Tribal improv students will need a set of finger cymbals. Advanced Tribal Improv and Advanced Tribal Fusion students will work with more props and will be given ample notice and guidance as to how and where to purchase their equipment. Missed Classes at the Park Districts: If you miss a class at one of the park districts, it may be made up in another class of the same level or lower at Simple Balance any time during the session of the missed class. Sorry, but we cannot issue refunds for classes that you miss. In the rare case that class is canceled due to weather or instructor illness, the class will be rescheduled for a later date. Missed Classes at Simple Balance: One of the advantages to the punch card system is that it gives you the freedom to have a flexible schedule. From the date of your first class, you have three months to use the seven class card. It should be noted, however, that the Tribal Improv and Tribal Fusion classes are progressive from week to week and it will be the studen's responsiblity to catch up on the missed material. Etiquette: Please do your best to arrive 5-10 minutes early for class to check in and get ready. Classes will start on time. If you are late to a Park District class, please enter quietly and find a place in the back of the room and join in. If you are late to a Simple Balance class, please ring the bell and someone will come let you in. Bellydance classes are fun, but they are still classes, so please keep conversations and joking to a minimum while in class and listen to the instructor at all times. Do not hesitate to ask questions if you need clarification or inform the teacher if something is uncomfortable or painful. Most of all, let go and enjoy the dance! |
PLEASE NOTE--ALL CLASS TUITIONS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE! Punch cards will not be mailed, but will be given to you when you attend your first class.
